The First Entrepreneurial Challenge

In 2013, at the age of 27, Terry made a bold decision alongside his father to start a small metal fabrication factory with only two foreign workers.

At the time, he had no business management experience and no entrepreneurial background.

Driven by passion and determination, he stepped into the world of business—only to discover that entrepreneurship was far more challenging than he had imagined.

Without proper systems, management knowledge, or financial planning, the company soon fell into severe financial difficulties. The business was placed under AKPK financial restructuring and came dangerously close to bankruptcy.

In 2014, to fulfill commitments made to customers, Terry made one of the most difficult decisions of his life—he sold the newly purchased house he had just moved into.

That year, he lost his house.

But he did not lose his integrity.

Because he firmly believed:

“A business can afford to lose money, but it cannot afford to lose credibility.”

Awakening Through Failure

After experiencing setbacks and failures, Terry began to reflect deeply.

He realized that the biggest challenge facing his company was not market competition—it was his own limitations as a leader.

The business could not grow beyond the capacity of its founder.

That realization became the beginning of his transformation.

The Learning That Changed Everything

The year 2017 became one of the most significant turning points in Terry's life.

Although the company's finances were still under pressure, he made a courageous decision to invest in himself by enrolling in OE Business School.

Despite limited resources, he chose education over comfort because he believed:

“Poverty is not the absence of money; it is the absence of growth.”

Under the mentorship of Dato Wira Calvin Khiu, Terry learned modern business management, leadership principles, and the Three-Win Business Model.

The experience completely transformed his mindset.

He began building systems, developing teams, strengthening branding, establishing corporate culture, and shifting the company from a business dependent on its owner to one driven by systems and structure.

From that moment, the trajectory of the company changed forever.

Redefining the Awning Industry

Many people viewed the awning industry as a traditional trade with limited growth potential.

Terry saw it differently.

He believed:

“There is no such thing as a traditional industry—only traditional thinking.”

Driven by this belief, he continuously pushed for innovation and industry transformation.

His vision was to elevate awnings beyond simple shelter solutions and position them as lifestyle products that integrate design, aesthetics, technology, and modern living.

From product innovation and installation standards to branding and customer experience, he led the company through a complete transformation.

As a result, he successfully pioneered the modernization of the awning industry through branding, systemization, innovation, and smart technology.
